Rainbow Fish (2 to 3 years)

At this age it is a crucial time for developing language and social skills. The children are encouraged by working together in groups.

Music and movement sessions and planned activities ensure that each child has the opportunity to reach their full potential in these areas.

The children are encouraged to learn through play enabling them to explore a variety of opportunities, these will include painting, sticking, texture play, imaginary play and basic colour and number work.

The children will also have the opportunity to learn basic computer skills in our 'IT Suite, with the help from their key worker.

Outside, strength and physical skills will be developed with the help of a range of age specific, skill developing nursery equipment. They will also have access to the planting area so that they can grow their own flowers and vegetables.

The children will have the opportunity to explore and investigate our sensory garden, giving the them confidence to experiment with sound using a variety of resources.

Toilet training can be time consuming and sometimes a stressful experience for parents. So at Starfish we aim to work with the parents while helping the child to progress at their own speed. Every child is an individual and toilet training will be encouraged when the child is ready regardless of their age.

Nearing their third birthday, when your child is ready, they will be given the opportunity to visit the 3-5's room and meet the staff and children in their new group. We also give you the chance to meet the staff and find out a little more about what happens in your child's new room, as well as giving you booklet explaining how we work within the governments Foundation Stage and we hope this will help make their move as gentle and effortless as possible.
