Jelly Fish (3 to 5 years)

The three to five year old group have a brightly decorated room that has been designed with a child's eye view in mind. The storage is at low level and is clearly labelled to give the children the opportunity to have a freedom of choice and further develop independence.

Independence is actively encouraged in this age group and as every child develops at a different speed, so assistance will always be offered with gradual and subtle encouragement. Children will be given daily responsibilities i.e. Laying the table before lunch and tea or feeding the fish.

Musical exploration, physical activities and art craft sessions are encouraged throughout the nursery and at this age children really begin to bloom creatively.

Gradually this age group will further develop their skills with numbers, letters, colours and basic reading and writing. This will help them to reach the "Stepping Stones" that will prepare them for school. Your 'Key worker' will liaise with you regarding how much preparation for school life is appropriate.

The use of computers will help develop concentration, hand-eye co-ordination and recognition skills. We provide the children with the opportunity to extend their language skills through weekly French lessons.

The children will learn to grow their own flowers and vegetables in our outdoor planting areas and be encouraged to participate in their upkeep.

The children's progress is recorded on their own development file. In addition to this, parents will be invited to open evenings, giving them the opportunity to discuss the progress of their child and to see the activities their child enjoys.
